Tina Lasonya Brown was born on July 19, 1970. She resided in Ensley, Florida, living in a mobile home community near Pensacola. Little is documented about her early years, but by 2010 she was a mother to Britnee Angelique Miller. Tina Brown’s neighbor was Heather Trinee Lee, with whom she had a close friendship.

Before the murder, Brown and her daughter shared a turbulent relationship with 19-year-old Audreanna Zimmerman, who lived in a neighboring trailer. Tensions escalated when Britnee Miller discovered Zimmerman was romantically involved with Miller’s boyfriend. A physical altercation occurred in which Zimmerman used a stun gun on Miller in self-defense. After this, Brown developed an intent to retaliate, ultimately planning the assault and murder of Zimmerman.

murder story

On March 24, 2010, Tina Brown invited Audreanna Zimmerman to her home under the pretense of reconciling their strained friendship. When Zimmerman arrived, she was ambushed by Brown, Brown’s daughter Britnee Miller, and neighbor Heather Lee.

The attackers beat Zimmerman repeatedly, including striking her with a crowbar. Brown also shocked her multiple times with a stun gun.

After the beating, the three women forced Zimmerman into a vehicle and drove her to a secluded wooded area in Escambia County. There, they poured gasoline over her and set her on fire, leaving her alive but severely burned.

Miraculously, Zimmerman managed to crawl to a nearby residence and call 911 for help. She named her attackers to the authorities.

Zimmerman was hospitalized with burns over 60% of her body. Despite intensive treatment, she died from her injuries on April 9, 2010, sixteen days after the attack.

After their arrests, all three women were charged with first-degree premeditated murder. Tina Brown proceeded to trial in June 2012. After a brief deliberation, the jury unanimously convicted her of first-degree murder.

On June 26, 2012, the jury recommended the death penalty. On September 28, 2012, Judge Gary Bergosh formally sentenced Brown to death. She is the only woman on Florida’s death row as of 2025.

Tina Brown pursued multiple appeals of her conviction and sentence:

  • 2014: Florida Supreme Court and U.S. Supreme Court rejected her appeals.
  • 2018–2020: She argued ineffective counsel and credibility issues regarding a prosecution witness (Corie Doyle), claiming Heather Lee had influenced the testimony. Courts dismissed these claims for lack of evidence.
  • 2023–2024: Filed post-conviction motions to vacate her conviction. In May 2024, Judge Gary Bergosh denied her final appeal, reaffirming her death sentence.

As of 2025, Tina Brown is the sole woman on Florida’s death row, housed at the Lowell Correctional Institution.
