Bio

Timothy Tyler Titsworth was born on March 8, 1972. He grew up in a troubled environment in Denver, Colorado. His father, Tex Titsworth, committed suicide when Timothy was just six years old. This loss had a significant effect on him and his family. His mother, Elsie May Titsworth, struggled with alcohol abuse. She began drinking and exposing her children to alcohol at a very young age.

At eight years old, Timothy and his older brother were taken from their mother's custody by Wyoming authorities. They were placed in an orphanage for about a year. After they were returned to their mother, Timothy continued to face difficulties. He had his first encounter with the law at the age of 13 after breaking into a shed. He was sentenced to three years of probation and was ordered to receive psychological counseling.

As a teenager, Titsworth struggled with substance abuse and was arrested again at 15 for drug possession. In February of 1992, he was convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to five years in prison but was released on probation after spending less than three months in a boot camp.

At the age of 21, Titsworth moved in with his girlfriend, Christine Marie Sossaman, in Amarillo, Texas. They had been living together for about two months before a tragic event unfolded. His early life was marked by instability, family issues, and early brushes with the legal system. These factors played a significant role in shaping the path he would take as an adult.

Murder Story

On July 23, 1993, Timothy Tyler Titsworth killed his girlfriend, Christine Marie Sossaman, in their trailer home in Amarillo, Texas. They had been living together for about two months. The day before the murder, Christine confided to a friend that she planned to ask Titsworth to leave because she suspected he was stealing from her.

That night, Titsworth and Christine got into an argument. After the argument, Christine went to sleep. Titsworth left the trailer to buy crack cocaine and a pill he thought was LSD. When he came back, he retrieved an axe from a closet and attacked Christine, striking her approximately 16 times while she was likely still in bed. Some injuries were inflicted after she fell to the floor.

After the attack, Titsworth took Christine's car and some personal belongings and sold them to get more drugs. He returned to the murder scene multiple times over the next few days to take more items to sell for drug money. Christine's mother discovered her body and notified the police, leading to Titsworth's arrest three days later while he was driving Christine's car.

Initially, Titsworth denied involvement in the killing but later confessed to police. He claimed not to remember much of the attack but did recall hitting Christine several times with the axe. During the investigation and trial, evidence illustrated that Titsworth had been consuming drugs and was unstable at the time of the murder.

Titsworth was convicted of capital murder and received the death penalty in October 1993. After numerous appeals failed, he was executed by lethal injection on June 6, 2006. His last words included an apology to Christine's family, expressing remorse for the pain he caused. He was pronounced dead at 6:20 PM.
