November 26, 1991Thomas Anthony Wyatt was born on January 6, 1964. He grew up in a challenging environment, but specific details about his early childhood and family background are limited. As a young person, Wyatt faced difficulties that may have influenced his later actions.
Wyatt spent part of his early life in different locations, including North Carolina, where he would later become involved in crime. By his teenage years, he had already started to engage in illegal activities. He faced legal troubles that resulted in his incarceration.
In May 1988, while serving time for previous offenses, Wyatt escaped from a prison work crew in North Carolina. This escape marked a significant turning point in his life. After escaping, he traveled to Florida with another individual.
During his time in Florida, Wyatt made choices that would lead to serious consequences. His life before this period consisted of various struggles, but it is clear that he became increasingly involved in criminal behavior, setting the stage for later events.
Wyatt's life ended in prison on February 8, 2013, but his early life is marked by a series of choices and paths that he took leading up to that point.
On May 13, 1988, Thomas Anthony Wyatt and Michael Lovette escaped from a prison work crew in North Carolina. They traveled to Florida, stealing a car in Jacksonville. Inside the stolen vehicle, they discovered a .38 caliber handgun.
On May 17, the two men checked into a hotel using false names. They made phone calls to their families and then visited a local bar. After drinking, they drove to a Domino’s Pizza restaurant to rob it. Wyatt ordered delivery driver Matthew Bornoosh to give his work shirt to Lovette, who then disguised himself as a restaurant employee.
Wyatt forced two employees, Frances and Michael Edwards, into the bathroom. He took their manager, William Edwards, to the office to open a safe. After obtaining the cash, Wyatt raped Frances and shot all three employees. Medical examinations later confirmed that each victim was fatally shot, and DNA evidence linked Wyatt to the crime.
After the robbery, Wyatt and Lovette drove west after their stolen car overheated. They set the vehicle on fire and hitchhiked to Tampa. There, Wyatt met Cathy Nydegger at a bar. They were seen leaving together, but Wyatt returned shortly after to talk to Lovette before leaving again.
The next day, Cathy Nydegger's body was found by the side of a road in Indian River County. She had also been shot in the head. Wyatt checked into a motel in Clearwater, using an alias and driving Nydegger's car. While at the motel, he gave another man, Freddie Fox, the gun he used.
Meanwhile, Lovette returned to North Carolina and surrendered to the police, confessing to his involvement in the crimes but claiming he was not the shooter. Wyatt was arrested in South Carolina on an unrelated charge. While in jail, he confessed to the murders to another inmate.
Overall, Wyatt was charged with multiple crimes, including four counts of first-degree murder, sexual battery, robbery, and kidnapping. He was found guilty and sentenced to death on several counts. He died in prison on February 8, 2013.
