December 30, 1985Years Active:
2004Terry Pitchford was born on December 30, 1985, in Mississippi. He grew up in Grenada County. He was known to have had trouble with the law in his late teens.
Terry was 18 years old when he became involved in a serious crime that would lead to his arrest. His life in those formative years paved the way for the significant changes that came shortly after he turned 18, leading to crucial turning points in his life.
On November 7, 2004, Terry Pitchford committed a homicide in Grenada County, Mississippi. His victim was Ruben Britt, the owner of Crossroads Grocery. Pitchford and three accomplices planned to rob the grocery store. During the robbery, Britt was shot multiple times. One of the guns used in the crime was Britt's own .38 caliber revolver, which he kept at the store for protection.
The next day, Pitchford was arrested after the police found Britt's gun in his car. During questioning, Pitchford confessed to his involvement in the crime. He said that he and one of his accomplices, Eric Bullin, had gone to the store with the intention to rob it. Pitchford admitted that Bullin shot Britt three times with a .22 caliber pistol, while he himself fired shots into the floor.
Following his arrest, Pitchford was charged with capital murder. He faced trial in early 2006. The jury found him guilty, and on February 9, 2006, Pitchford was sentenced to death. His conviction and sentence were upheld by the Mississippi Supreme Court in subsequent reviews. Pitchford's attempts to appeal the sentence were also denied by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2011.
