September 24, 1990Tammy Corbett was born in Illinois on October 2, 1965. She had one younger sister.
As a teenager she was an excellent student, a cheerleader, and president of her class. In her freshman year she was outgoing and involved in school activities.
By her junior year she became more introverted and depressed. She withdrew from activities, began to drink, and her grades slipped. She did not graduate with her class.
Corbett later said she had been raped three times. After those events she began to drink more and her school work fell further. She also had an abortion while in high school.
She had a head injury in an accident at a YMCA pool and was later in a car accident. After those accidents she had headaches, blackouts, violent nightmares, and episodes of screaming from which she could not be awakened.
A clinical psychologist who evaluated her believed the accidents may have caused brain damage that made existing trauma worse. That doctor said she had disorders of thought, mood, and behavior that impaired her judgment but that she could understand right from wrong. Another medical report said she did not have brain damage but described her as mentally ill.
Tammy Corbett was born October 2, 1965. She was classified as a murderer and as a child killer. Her recorded number of victims is three. The deaths occurred between September 1987 and July 1989 in Macoupin County, Illinois.
Her victims were three of her children. Robert Eveans was seven weeks old and died in September 1987. His death was linked to a fractured skull. Amy Eveans was 16 days old and died in September 1988. Her death was initially ruled sudden infant death syndrome. Richard Eveans Jr. was three years old and died in July 1989. His death was by smothering.
Tammy Corbett was arrested on August 10, 1989. She pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the murder of her three-year-old son and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on September 24, 1990. She was later charged in April 1991 in the deaths of the two younger children. On February 10, 1993, she was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
