June 28, 2011Stephen Rob Nunn, also known as Steve Nunn, was born on November 4, 1952, in Glasgow, Kentucky. He grew up in a political family. His father, Louie B. Nunn, was a former governor of Kentucky, and his mother was Beula Cornelius Aspley Nunn, the First Lady of Kentucky. This background likely influenced Steve's later involvement in politics.
Nunn attended high school in Kentucky and went on to earn a bachelor's degree. He began his political career in 1980 when he became a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. He represented Barren County as a Republican and served for 26 years until 2006. During this time, he was known for his work in health and family services.
In 2003, Nunn ran for governor of Kentucky but did not win. He finished third in the primary against Ernie Fletcher. After losing the election, he continued his political work. On December 22, 2007, he was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of Health and Family Services for Kentucky.
Nunn's personal life faced challenges during his career. In early 2009, allegations of domestic violence arose. This led to him being placed on administrative leave from his job, and he resigned in March of that year. Nunn had been in a relationship with Amanda Ross, who had filed a protective order against him because of alleged abuse.
Nunn's early life and career were marked by his family's political influence. However, personal issues and allegations would later lead to significant legal troubles.
On September 11, 2009, Amanda Ross was found shot to death outside her home in the parking lot of the Opera House Square townhomes in Lexington, Kentucky. She was just 29 years old. The police received reports of gunfire in the area early that morning. Witnesses said they heard someone scream "no" before hearing multiple gunshots.

That same day, authorities located Steve Nunn, Amanda's ex-fiancé, at a cemetery in Hart County, near the graves of his parents. He had injuries to his wrists, which appeared to be self-inflicted. Nunn was found with a .38-caliber handgun and reportedly fired a shot into the air when officers approached him. He was arrested hours after Ross's death.

On September 14, Nunn faced charges of murder and violating a protective order that Amanda had previously obtained against him. During the following days, police began gathering evidence, including digital files and records, to investigate the events surrounding the murder.

Nunn was indicted on November 10, 2009, for murder and violating the protective order against Amanda. At first, prosecutors considered seeking the death penalty due to the nature of the crime. However, on June 28, 2011, Nunn pled guilty to the charges. His plea bargain was part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid a more severe sentence. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
