Stephen Morin was born on February 19, 1951, in Providence, Rhode Island. He grew up in a poor family and faced many challenges from a young age. Details about his early childhood are scarce, but it is known that he struggled a lot.

Morin dropped out of school when he was still quite young. During his teenage years, he started using drugs and got involved in criminal activities. This led him down a troubled path that would shape his future.

In the mid-1960s, Morin was arrested in Florida for stealing cars. He was found guilty and sent to a juvenile detention center. After his release in 1968, Morin decided to leave Florida and began traveling across the United States.

Throughout the 1970s, Morin lived in Northern California, especially around the San Francisco Bay Area. He moved frequently, using different names and committing various crimes. For a while, he worked in San Francisco as a car mechanic and builder, trying to keep a low profile while continuing his criminal activities.

murder story

On September 26, 1976, Stephen Morin lured a 14-year-old girl to his apartment in the Marina District of San Francisco. Once there, he tied her up, hung her from a ceiling hook, and assaulted her for several hours. He eventually released her at a shopping center in Marin County. The FBI started looking for Morin in 1977 because he fled to avoid prosecution.

On September 25, 1979, Sheila Gay Griffith, who was 22 years old, was last seen leaving the Silver Nugget in Las Vegas with a man. Her body was discovered on November 27, 1979, in the Mojave Desert, covered by a sleeping bag.

Susan Jane Belote, 18, went missing on January 16, 1980, after a shopping trip in Las Vegas. Her body was found months later, on May 26, 1980, near Bloomington. The cause of death couldn't be confirmed because her body was badly decomposed, but it was suspected she was strangled.

On June 27, 1980, Cheryl Ann Daniel, 20, was abducted from a supermarket parking lot in Las Vegas. Her body was found on December 13, 1980, in Hell Hole Canyon near St. George, Utah. She had been shot in the head. Morin was charged with her kidnapping and murder.

On November 6, 1981, Morin picked up Sheila E. Whalen, 23, after ending a date with another woman. Sheila was found stabbed to death in a motel room in Lakewood, Colorado, the next day. Evidence linked Morin to the crime when his ex-girlfriend found Sheila's missing clothes in his van.

On November 30, 1981, Pamela Jackson, 23, was kidnapped from her apartment complex in Corpus Christi. She survived 11 days with Morin, during which he forced her to dye her hair and repeatedly assaulted her.

Janna Bruce, 21, was abducted on December 2, 1981, from a hotel parking lot. She was found dead the next day, strangled and left in a culvert on Padre Island. Morin's fingerprints were found on her car, linking him to her murder.

On December 6, 1981, Morin attempted to kidnap Michael Reed and Pearl Lutz in San Antonio, but they survived despite being shot. A few days later, on December 11, 1981, Morin shot Carrie Scott and Dru Valdes outside a restaurant in San Antonio. Carrie died from her injuries, while Dru survived.

Later that day, the police SWAT team surrounded Morin's motel room in San Antonio, but he escaped through a bathroom window. His traveling companion, Sarah Clarke, and Pamela Jackson were found in the room. The next day, Morin was arrested after forcing a woman to drive him to a bus station in Kerrville.

Morin faced charges for the murders of Carrie Marie Scott and Janna Bruce, with strong evidence against him. He pled guilty and was sentenced to death in February 1984. Later, he was also convicted of killing Cheryl Ann Daniel and Sheila Whalen, receiving another death sentence in Colorado.

In prison, Morin converted to Christianity. He chose not to appeal his death sentence, even though his lawyer tried to argue that he was mentally unfit. Morin was executed by lethal injection on March 13, 1985, at the Huntsville Unit in Texas. His last meal included steak, baked potatoes, and banana pudding. His final words were a prayer asking for forgiveness for those involved in his execution. He was pronounced dead at 12:55 AM.
