September 10, 2011Years Active:
2011Stanley Neace was born in 1963. He grew up in Breathitt County, Kentucky. In January 1993, he was arrested and charged with serious offenses involving a child.
Over the years, Stanley had several encounters with the law. In 1998, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of third-degree sexual abuse. He was sentenced to probation, and his rights were restored a few years later, in June 2002. Despite these serious charges, he continued to live in the community.
Stanley Neace lived in a mobile home park for about seven years. Neighbors described him as having a hot temper. In the months leading up to his violent actions, his behavior became more troubling. His landlord even began eviction proceedings due to his increasing hostility towards neighbors. Many found him unpredictable, as little things could trigger his anger.
On September 10, 2011, Stanley Neace committed a mass murder in Breathitt County, Kentucky. He killed six people, including himself, in a shooting rampage that began after he became angry over how his wife, Sandra Neace, cooked his breakfast. Around 11:30 a.m., Neace, dressed in pajamas, grabbed his 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and moved across several lawns.

He first followed his wife into a nearby mobile home where he shot her. Along with Sandra, he also killed her 28-year-old daughter, Sandra Rachel Strong, and Strong's boyfriend, Dennis Turner. Neace then shot two of his neighbors, Teresa Fugate and Tammy Kilborn, before returning to his home. After the shooting, he took his own life on his porch.
Witnesses reported hearing dozens of gunshots during the incident. One neighbor saw Neace chase his wife, shooting at her while she screamed. A child was present during one of the shootings and was reportedly spared when Neace allowed her to leave.
Authorities indicated that Neace had a history of hostility toward his neighbors, which had become more apparent over the months prior to the rampage. His landlord had even begun eviction proceedings due to his unpredictable behavior.
After the shootings, police discovered the bodies of Neace and the five victims inside the mobile homes. Autopsies were conducted to confirm the identities and details surrounding their deaths.
