Bio

Sean Bernard Running Eagle was born on December 7, 1968. He is identified as an American Indian.

On December 6, 1987, he was part of a group that planned to commit a burglary in Phoenix.

At the time of his crimes, he was only a day away from turning 19 years old. This age would be significant as it marked the beginning of his adult life, which would quickly change after his actions on that day.

Murder Story

On December 6, 1987, Sean Bernard Running Eagle, along with Corey Tilden and Orva Antone, was involved in a burglary at a residence in Phoenix, Arizona. Around 6:00 a.m., the group targeted the home of Robert Davis. While they were burglarizing the house, 72-year-old Herbert Williams, a neighbor, noticed the activity and confronted them. He told them to leave and mentioned he would call the police if they did not comply.

In response, Running Eagle took out a large hunting knife and started to threaten Mr. Williams. Mr. Williams' wife, Jacqueline, heard the commotion and came outside. She began yelling for help. In a violent turn, Tilden struck Mrs. Williams over the head with a flashlight. Following this, both Running Eagle and Tilden forced their way into the Williams' home.

Inside, they attacked Herbert and Jacqueline Williams. Mr. Williams was stabbed multiple times in different areas of his body, including the chest and back. Mrs. Williams also suffered fatal injuries, being stabbed several times and having her throat cut.

The events led to the arrest of Running Eagle and Tilden, who were later tried in court. Orva Antone pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and testified against them. Both Running Eagle and Tilden were found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. Tilden received two life sentences for his role in the crimes.

The trial began on June 21, 1988, and the verdict was delivered on July 27, 1988. Running Eagle was sentenced to death on February 3, 1989. The court classified the murders as having aggravating circumstances, including robbery and multiple killings.
