Bio

Rutendra Raghunandan was born in 1971. He was known to have worked as a corrections officer for the Colorado Department of Corrections. He began his job at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility on April 1, 1999.

Rutendra's personal life included a marriage to Lolita Raghunandan. They had two sons together, Akash, who was 10 years old, and Rene, who was 5 years old. At some point, their relationship faced serious challenges. The couple separated and Lolita moved into an apartment in Cimarron Hills, Colorado.

Before the tragic events in September 2003, Rutendra had encountered legal issues related to his marriage. He was arrested for breaking into Lolita's apartment and reportedly assaulted her. He was charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree assault, and a protection order was issued against him. He was released from jail shortly before the incident.

Murder Story

On September 15, 2003, Rutendra Raghunandan committed a horrific crime in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He killed his estranged wife, Lolita Raghunandan, and their two sons, Akash and Rene, before taking his own life. The family had been living separately for less than a month, and the incident took place at Lolita's apartment in Cimarron Hills.

Rutendra shot Lolita, aged 32, and their sons, aged 10 and 5, and then turned the gun on himself. The police found the bodies when a neighbor became worried about not seeing the children outside. The maintenance worker entered the apartment and discovered Lolita's body in the living room. Rutendra and the boys were found in a bedroom.

Earlier in the week, Rutendra had been arrested for breaking into Lolita's apartment and assaulting her. He was charged with several crimes but was released on bail shortly before the murders took place. A protection order was also issued against him. Reports suggest that the shootings happened one or two days before the discovery of the bodies.

A rifle was found near Rutendra's body. Detectives believe the incident stemmed from ongoing issues in their relationship, including a possible affair involving Lolita. The community was shocked by the tragedy that unfolded in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.
