Bio

Roy Lee Ward was born on July 20, 1972. He grew up in a challenging environment, where his family faced difficulties. His parents eventually separated and divorced. This situation led to a dysfunctional family dynamic, which affected Ward's upbringing.

When he was a child, he faced issues with his education. Reports indicate that he struggled academically. His school attendance was often irregular, and he had a pattern of behavioral problems. Due to these challenges, he was deemed to have low intelligence. This background contributed to some of the problems he faced later in life.

Ward's childhood experiences included mental illness and instability. He had behavioral issues that were noted by those around him. Later in life, he exhibited signs of exhibitionism disorder, which is a mental health issue where an individual feels the compulsion to expose themselves inappropriately.

As a young adult, Ward encountered more trouble with the law. He had multiple prior convictions for offenses like public indecency and indecent exposure. These convictions led him into a series of legal troubles. At the time of his most serious crime, he was on probation for a burglary committed in Missouri.

Overall, Roy Lee Ward's early life was marked by significant challenges related to his family, education, and mental health. These factors would play a crucial role in his later actions.

Murder Story

On July 11, 2001, Roy Lee Ward entered the home of Stacy Payne, a 15-year-old girl, under the pretense of searching for a lost dog. At that time, Stacy was home alone with her younger sister, Melissa, who was asleep. When Melissa woke up to the sound of Stacy screaming, she rushed to the top of the stairs and saw Ward attacking her sister. Terrified, Melissa ran to call 911 while hearing Stacy plead for her life.

When the police arrived, they found Ward standing at the doorway, covered in sweat and holding a knife. He claimed he had not done anything wrong. Meanwhile, the officers discovered Stacy lying in a pool of blood inside the house. She was severely injured and lifeless. Though she was taken to the hospital, the injuries were too extensive, and she could not be saved.

In the aftermath of the attack, forensic investigations revealed alarming details about Stacy's injuries. She had suffered multiple serious wounds and blunt force trauma. The evidence suggested that she had been raped before the stabbing.

Roy Lee Ward was arrested that very day and charged with murder, rape, and other crimes. He had a troubling criminal history, including prior convictions for public indecency.

During the trial, the prosecution presented compelling evidence about the brutality of the crime. The jury recommended a death penalty after hearing emotional testimonies, including one from Stacy's mother, who described the deep loss her family felt. On June 9, 2007, Ward was officially sentenced to death, with the execution date set, though appeals would likely delay this. Ward's criminal behavior and psychological evaluations indicated a lack of empathy and emotional understanding. Ward was placed on death row after being found guilty of his crimes.
