Bio

Ronnie Johns was born on February 23, 1973. He was from Flint, Michigan, and was still a teenager when he became involved in a series of violent crimes in Genesee County in 1991. Michigan Department of Corrections records identify him as a Black male with the alias Yahki Morris. His later criminal record shows convictions for controlled substance possession, armed robbery, assault with intent to murder, firearm offenses, and multiple murder convictions.

By 1991, Johns was connected to robbery-related shootings in Flint. Reports describe the crimes as involving victims who were shot during robbery attempts, some of which were connected to drug-related activity. He later became known in local crime reporting as the “.44 Caliber Killer,” a reference to the firearm associated with the shootings.

Johns was convicted in 1992 and sentenced to life imprisonment. Michigan prison records currently list him as a prisoner with life as both his earliest release date and maximum discharge date. He is assigned to Alger Correctional Facility.

Murder Story

In 1991, Ronnie Johns carried out a series of robbery-related shootings in Genesee County, Michigan. The crimes took place in Flint and surrounding areas during a violent period in the city’s history. The first confirmed murder offense in Michigan Department of Corrections records occurred on June 22, 1991. Johns was later convicted of second-degree murder for that killing and sentenced on June 9, 1992, to 25 to 50 years in prison. He also received a firearm sentence connected to the same case.

The second major case occurred on August 9, 1991. Johns was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, along with assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and felony-firearm offenses. He was sentenced on July 9, 1992, to life imprisonment for each first-degree murder conviction.

Reports identify two of the August 1991 victims as Lucille Bowie and 14-year-old Demetrius Rawls, who were shot during a robbery-related incident in Flint. Other reports identify Steven Ray as an earlier victim. However, the available official prison record confirms the conviction dates, offense dates, and charges, but does not list the victims’ names.

Johns was also convicted of additional robbery and firearm offenses connected to the 1991 crime series. Michigan prison records show another armed robbery offense dated September 10, 1991, for which he was sentenced on June 10, 1992. That sentence was later discharged while he remained incarcerated on the murder and other active sentences.
