Murder Story

On March 10, 2003, Ronell Wilson shot two undercover police detectives, James V. Nemorin and Rodney J. Andrews, in Staten Island, New York. The detectives were in an undercover operation to buy a gun when they were killed.

As the detectives drove to the location for the gun sale, Wilson and another man, Jesse Jacobus, were in the back seat. Wilson then ordered Detective Nemorin to pull over. He shot Detective Andrews in the back of the head and quickly turned to shoot Detective Nemorin as well. After the shooting, Wilson searched the bodies of the detectives and took their car.

Wilson was arrested a few days later along with other members of a gang called the Stapleton Crew. Evidence against him included the murder weapon and clothing linked to him. In November 2006, his trial began, and he faced serious charges. On December 20, 2006, he was found guilty of multiple counts, including murder.

On January 30, 2007, Wilson received a death sentence. This was the first federal death penalty sentence in New York since 1988. The verdict followed a lot of attention and concern over the nature of his crimes. Wilson’s case carried significant impact due to the harsh actions taken against law enforcement officers while on duty.

He is currently held in a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. Throughout the legal proceedings, Wilson maintained a stoic demeanor. His response to the verdict was one of defiance, as he reportedly rolled his eyes and made faces toward the families of the victims. The families of the fallen detectives had awaited justice and expressed relief at the death sentence as a form of accountability for the killings.
