Bio

Ronald Taylor was born in 1961. He grew up in a large family with five siblings. His parents had been married for almost 40 years. The family was described as loving and supportive. They raised their children in a Christian environment.

As a child, Taylor faced many health problems. He struggled with various issues throughout his life. These health challenges affected him deeply. He often felt frustrated and angry about his situation. Because of these challenges, he eventually began receiving disability payments.

In his adult life, Taylor lived in different places. At one point, he moved to Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, and lived in an apartment complex. Neighbors described him as a quiet person. They said he mostly kept to himself and did not interact much with others. He would occasionally say hello, but did not have deep conversations.

Despite his quiet demeanor, some people noted that he occasionally expressed anger. He seemed to have a troubled relationship with a maintenance worker in his building. He often complained about maintenance issues in his apartment. His behavior raised concern among the staff at the apartment complex. They sometimes found him strange but harmless.

Taylor had a history of mental health issues. He had been treated for these problems in the past. Those who knew him thought he was a melancholic person, but they did not expect him to commit acts of violence. Some acquaintances found it hard to believe that he could harm anyone.

He had few friends and didn't often socialize. Some neighbors mentioned that he would make racist comments. They noted that he had strong feelings about race, but did not see any immediate danger in him. Taylor became increasingly isolated as he struggled with his mental health and frustrations in life.

Murder Story

On March 1, 2000, Ronald Taylor committed a violent spree in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. The day began with Taylor becoming angry about repair issues in his apartment, specifically a broken door. After confronting maintenance workers, he shot John Kroll, a maintenance man, outside of his apartment building. Following this, he set fire to his apartment.

Taylor then went to two fast-food restaurants nearby: a Burger King and a McDonald's. Inside the Burger King, he shot Joseph Healy, a 71-year-old customer. Shortly after, at the McDonald's, he shot Emil Sanielevici, a 20-year-old student, who was waiting in line at the drive-through. He also wounded Richard Clinger and Steven Bostard during this rampage.

After the shootings, Taylor fled and held several people hostage for two hours in a senior hospice center. He eventually surrendered to the police without further incident. During the investigation, authorities discovered anti-white writings in his apartment, indicating that the attacks were racially motivated.

On the same day, he was arrested and charged with multiple counts, including three counts of homicide. Taylor was held without bail, and his mental health history became a topic of discussion during court proceedings. On January 11, 2002, he was sentenced to death for his actions, with additional sentences for other charges related to the crimes he committed.
