murder story

On September 18, 1992, Roger Wallace Warren carried out the Giant Mine bombings in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. The attack resulted in the deaths of nine workers. The incident drew significant attention because of the method used and the high number of casualties in a workplace setting.

Warren was arrested and later confessed to the murders. He was convicted in 1995 on nine counts of second-degree murder. During his trial, he stated that he acted alone, despite later claims of poor security and blame placed on others, such as his union and the mining company. He said that his actions were provoked and that he believed some changes could have prevented the tragedy.

In a subsequent confession in 2003, after an investigation into the case was dropped, he reiterated that he was solely responsible for the bombings. His confessions and the circumstances of the attack raised many questions about his motives and the events leading up to it.

In 2004, Warren appeared in a lawsuit filed by the widows of the victims. He claimed that his termination from the mine was a direct factor in the violence he committed.

Warren became eligible for parole in 2010. He applied for day parole in March 2014 and was granted it in June of that year. During the parole hearing, he expressed regret for his actions. He was granted full parole in 2017.

Roger Wallace Warren died on July 24, 2019, at the age of 75 in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
