Bio

Rodney Joseph Sattler was born in 1967 in Montana, USA. Little is known about his family background or early childhood, but he grew up in a country that was experiencing significant social changes. As he got older, Sattler faced challenges that would shape his path in life.

By the time he became a young adult, he had already encountered legal issues. In 1986, Sattler committed a crime that would lead to serious consequences. He was charged with murder. The details of his life during his teenage years remain unclear, but it is evident that by 1986, he was involved in serious criminal activities.

After his conviction, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He served his time in various facilities, including the Swan River Correctional Training Center near Condon, Montana. Sattler's personality was described as unpredictable and aggressive by fellow inmates. He was known to intimidate others, establishing himself as a dominant figure in the prison environment.

While in custody, Sattler faced more legal troubles. He attempted to attack a staff member at Swan River and almost killed another inmate while awaiting trial for that incident. His actions during this time showed a pattern of violence that would define his life in prison.

On February 2, 2004, Rodney Sattler committed suicide in his prison cell. His early life leading to his criminal actions leaves a complex story of a troubled individual shaped by his circumstances.

Murder Story

Rodney Sattler committed his first murder in 1986 when he killed Diane Stout, a 25-year-old woman from Thompson Falls, Montana. He strangled her and left her body along railroad tracks at the edge of town. Sattler was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison for this crime.

In 1995, while serving time at the Swan River Correctional Training Center, Sattler attempted to kill Donna Weeks, an employee at the facility, during an altercation. He was later transferred to the Lake County Jail to await trial for this attack.

While at the Lake County Jail, on April 20, 1995, Sattler killed Raymond Carl Martinson, a 22-year-old fellow inmate who was jailed for a misdemeanor drunken driving charge. Sattler beat Martinson to death using a metal bar from an exercise bicycle. He claimed he acted in self-defense during the incident, but a jury found him guilty of deliberate homicide in March 1996.

Sattler was sentenced to death for Martinson's murder in 1996. He chose hanging as his method of execution. Before the execution could take place, Sattler took his own life in his prison cell on February 2, 2004, using a bedsheet and shoelaces to hang himself.
