Bio

Rodney Charles Rachal was born on April 29, 1970. He grew up in Harris County, Texas. As Rachal grew up, he became involved with a group of friends who would later play a role in his criminal activities.

Rodney Rachal’s life took a serious turn when he became involved in serious criminal activity as a teenager. His actions would ultimately lead to a tragic event in 1990 that resulted in a death.

Murder Story

On October 25, 1990, Rodney Charles Rachal committed murder in Harris County, Texas. He and several accomplices devised a plan to commit robbery at an apartment complex. As part of the scheme, Rachal and two other men hid while two women attempted to distract and lure potential victims.

When they targeted a group of three men, Rachal confronted them with a .357 caliber handgun. He instructed the victims to lie on the ground and began searching them. Two bystanders noticed what was happening and tried to escape. Rachal ordered his accomplices to stop them, leading to shots being fired. One of Rachal's accomplices shot one victim in the back, killing him. Rachal also shot two more men, causing one of them to die from his wounds.

As Rachal attempted to leave the scene, he encountered another man, whom he robbed and ordered to kneel. The man pleaded for his life but was shot in the lower chest and abdomen. Miraculously, he survived the attack.

Rachal was arrested shortly after, with the handgun used in the robbery still in his possession. He confessed to the police in writing, detailing his actions during the crimes. In October 1992, a jury found him guilty of capital murder.

During the sentencing phase of the trial, witnesses testified about Rachal's childhood and behavior, presenting a mixed view of his character. The jury was tasked with determining if Rachal had acted deliberately and whether he could pose a future threat to society. They answered both questions affirmatively, resulting in a death sentence for Rachal on March 9, 1993.

Rachal's conviction and death sentence were affirmed by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 1996. Despite subsequent appeals and petitions for relief regarding various claims, including ineffective assistance of counsel, the courts upheld the original rulings, finalizing his legal status.
