1982Robin Reid was born on October 20, 1948, in Hampshire, England. In 1961, he and his family moved to Australia, settling in Queensland. Reid left school when he was 14 years old and worked various jobs, including laboring, spray-painting, and sales. Throughout his early life, he developed an interest in knives, bows, and arrows.
In 1972, Reid joined the Australian Army and was stationed at Enoggera. During his time there, he met a younger soldier named Paul Luckman. The two formed a close friendship and shared similar interests, including weapons and violence. Reid gained a nickname at the army base, "Head-job Bob," which reflected his controversial reputation.
On May 4, 1982, Robin Reid and his accomplice, Paul Luckman, kidnapped two boys, Peter Aston and Terry Ryan, on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. They drove them at gun and knife point to Kingscliff in New South Wales. Once there, they assaulted and tortured the boys. Terry Ryan was forced to participate in some of the violence against his friend, Peter Aston.
During the ordeal, Peter was brutally beaten and ultimately murdered. Afterward, the perpetrators buried him alive in a shallow grave nearby. They then took Terry Ryan back home, threatening him to keep silent about the events.
Terry immediately reported the incident to his mother, who took him to the police. This led to a swift investigation, and Reid and Luckman were arrested two days later while attempting to escape in a stolen car. A search of their living quarters revealed a disturbing array of weapons and items related to their crimes.
Both men were charged with the murder of Peter Aston and additional charges related to the attack on Terry Ryan. During the trial, they both attempted to shift the blame onto each other. Despite this, they were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on November 26, 1982. Robin Reid has remained in protective custody since his imprisonment due to the nature of his crimes.
