1982Robert L. Streetman was born in 1960. He grew up in Texas and had a difficult childhood. He left school after completing the ninth grade, becoming a high school dropout. Streetman began using drugs at a very young age, starting when he was only eight years old.
As an adult, Streetman worked as an oil derrick worker. His life took a downward turn as he struggled with his drug use and lack of education.
Streetman became involved in criminal activities, which eventually led to his arrest. He was associated with a group of men who planned a robbery, believing it would lead to financial gain. However, the situation escalated, and Streetman's actions resulted in serious consequences.
On December 17, 1982, Robert L. Streetman, along with three accomplices, committed a burglary in Hardin County, Texas. The group believed that a large sum of money was hidden inside the home of Christine Baker, a 44-year-old woman. During the crime, Streetman shot Baker through a window while she was sitting in her living room. The only thing taken from the house was Baker’s purse, which contained just one dollar. The group missed a significant amount of cash and checks, amounting to $64,000, that was also hidden in the home.
Streetman was arrested two days later, on December 19, 1982, after law enforcement discovered his involvement during the interrogation of the burglary suspects. During questioning, Streetman admitted to the murder, and he later provided a written confession. He was tried for capital murder in 1983.
Several witnesses, including his co-defendants, implicated Streetman during the trial, providing evidence against him. Ultimately, he was found guilty and sentenced to death by lethal injection. Streetman’s execution was scheduled for January 7, 1988.
Before his execution, Streetman experienced delays due to legal appeals and was initially hesitant about pursuing them. However, he eventually requested to be executed. The execution was carried out on January 7, 1988, after a brief hold that was caused by confusion over a last-minute appeal. Streetman was pronounced dead shortly after the lethal drugs were administered.
