Bio

Robert A. Poyson was born on August 15, 1976. He grew up in a remote area of Mohave County, Arizona. He was a Hispanic male. Poyson lived near a woman named Leta Kagen, her son Robert Delahunt, and a man named Roland Wear. They all resided close to each other in the same rural area.

Murder Story

On August 13, 1996, Robert A. Poyson participated in the murders of three people in Mohave County, Arizona. The victims were Leta Kagen, 30; her son, Robert Delahunt, 15; and Roland Wear, 50. Poyson, along with Frank Anderson and Kimberly Lane, made a plan to kill them and steal Roland's truck.

The murders began when Lane lured Robert Delahunt into a travel trailer. There, Anderson attacked him with a bread knife. Poyson held Robert down while Anderson caused severe injuries. Eventually, Poyson ended Robert's life by crushing his skull with a rock.

Later that night, Anderson and Poyson went to a mobile home where Leta Kagen was sleeping. Poyson shot her in the head with a rifle while Anderson provided light with a lantern. When Roland Wear woke up, Poyson shot him in the mouth. A struggle ensued, and Poyson hit Roland with the rifle stock. They moved to the yard, and Poyson killed Roland with a cinder block.

Robert A. Poyson was arrested and charged with these murders. His trial began on March 2, 1998. On March 9, 1998, the jury found him guilty. He was sentenced to death on November 20, 1998. The court cited several reasons for the severity of his sentence, including that he gained financially from the crimes and that multiple people were killed in a particularly cruel manner.
