— Ricky Eugene Morrow
Ricky Eugene Morrow was born on May 29, 1951. Before the murder of Mark Frazier, he already had a criminal record. His past convictions included aggravated robbery, burglary, theft, and possession of a dangerous drug. He had been sent to prison before and later released on parole. In 1976, Morrow was convicted again for aggravated robbery and received a 25-year sentence. He was paroled in 1981, about one year before Mark Frazier was killed.
By 1982, Morrow was with his girlfriend, Linda Ferguson, who later became his wife. Together, they committed two bank robberies in Dallas on the same day. The second robbery led to the shooting death of Mark Frazier.
On January 19, 1982, Ricky Eugene Morrow and Linda Ferguson went to a pawnshop and bought two handguns: a .25-caliber pistol and a .38-caliber revolver. Later that day, they went to Metropolitan Savings and Loan in Dallas. Morrow entered the bank, threatened employees, demanded money, and left with a sack of cash. As he left, the sack tore and his gun fired, but no one was killed during that first robbery.
After leaving Metropolitan Savings, Morrow and Ferguson went to First Texas Savings and Loan. Morrow entered the bank armed with both guns. When employee Mark Frazier asked if he needed help, Morrow announced a robbery. He forced Frazier to the teller window and pointed one gun at Frazier and the other at the teller.
After receiving a bag of money from the teller, Morrow shot Mark Frazier. Frazier died from the gunshot wound. Morrow then left the bank with the stolen money.
After the robbery and shooting, Morrow and Ferguson went to the Park Cities Inn and rented a room. Police and FBI agents tracked them there and surrounded the room. Ferguson was pushed out of the room and arrested. Morrow initially refused to surrender and threatened officers. After gunfire was exchanged, he surrendered.
Morrow was convicted of capital murder for killing Mark Frazier during the bank robbery. He challenged his conviction and sentence for many years through appeals and habeas proceedings, but the courts rejected his claims. The Fifth Circuit denied further relief in 2004. On October 20, 2004, Ricky Eugene Morrow was executed by lethal injection in Texas. Texas execution records list him as execution number 330, age 53, from Dallas County.
Before his execution, Morrow spoke mainly to loved ones. He apologized for what they were going through, said he loved them, and ended his final statement by saying he was ready.
