Bio

Rickey Bernard Roberts, also known as Less McCullars, was born on October 5, 1954. Very little is known about his early life. Information about his family and upbringing is scarce. He grew up in the United States, but specific details about his childhood, education, and relationships have not been widely documented.

Before becoming known for his criminal activities, Roberts lived a life that would eventually lead him down a troubled path. As he became an adult, he faced various challenges that likely contributed to his later actions. However, exact details about his life during these years are not available.

Roberts lived in Florida, where he eventually became infamous for committing serious crimes. His life before these events remains largely a mystery, with limited information on how he developed into the person who would later be convicted of murder.

Murder Story

On June 4, 1984, Rickey Bernard Roberts was convicted for the murder of George Napoles. The events leading to this murder began late on June 3, 1984, when Napoles, Michelle Rimondi, and Jammie Campbell parked their car on the beach near Key Biscayne, Florida. They had been drinking wine and fell asleep in the car. Later that night, Rimondi woke up and saw another car parked next to them.

Roberts exited his car and approached Napoles' vehicle. He asked Napoles and Rimondi what they were doing there and requested Napoles' identification. Napoles believed Roberts was an undercover officer and handed over his ID. Roberts then made unwanted advances toward Rimondi, which caused Napoles to become suspicious. He demanded that Roberts show him police identification, but Roberts claimed it was in his car. Napoles decided to accompany Roberts to check.

Instead of showing any identification, Roberts pulled out a baseball bat and forced Napoles back to the car. Rimondi was told to face the car and not turn around. However, she saw Roberts hit Napoles multiple times with the bat. After attacking him, Roberts pushed Napoles towards the beach and ordered Rimondi to remove her clothing, threatening her with violence if she did not comply.

While Rimondi undressed, Roberts suddenly noticed another car approaching, which prompted him to tell her to get dressed and get into his vehicle. He drove with Rimondi for several hours, during which time she tried to convince him to let her go home. At one point, Roberts realized he had forgotten his wallet at the beach and returned with Rimondi, where they saw Napoles' body. Roberts turned Napoles over while Rimondi testified that he was still alive.

Roberts then continued to drive with Rimondi, eventually raping her multiple times before dropping her off at her home. After the attack, Rimondi contacted the police to report what had happened. The following morning, Napoles' body was discovered on the beach.

Rimondi provided critical information to the police that helped identify Roberts. Initially, Roberts denied having been at the scene. However, after police informed him that his palm print was found on Napoles’ car, he changed his story, claiming he had only given Rimondi a ride.

Roberts was charged with several counts, including first-degree murder, armed sexual battery, and armed kidnapping. In December 1985, he was found guilty and sentenced to death for Napoles’ murder and received life sentences for the other charges. After various appeals and legal proceedings, Roberts was resentenced to death on September 2, 2005.
