Bio

Raymond Solano was born on May 16, 1979. He grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania. During his childhood, he lived in a city known for its diversity. The neighborhood where he spent his formative years saw various economic conditions, which influenced the community around him. As a young person, he likely went to local schools in the area.

By the time he reached adulthood, Solano was known to have a relatively private life. Very few accounts discuss his jobs or interests before his involvement in crime. The next significant event in his life occurred when he was arrested in connection to a murder on June 3, 2001.

At the time of the murder, he was living in Allentown. When he was arrested 16 days later, he was noted as a stockily built man, but not much more is known about him physically or personally.

Murder Story

On June 3, 2001, Raymond Solano shot and killed Armando Rodriguez in Valenia Park, Allentown, Pennsylvania. The crime happened around 3:00 p.m. Solano approached Rodriguez while he was playing basketball and fired multiple shots at him at close range. After Rodriguez collapsed, Solano stood over him and continued to shoot. He then turned and fired towards the crowd in the park before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing Solano in the area before the shooting. Jose Aquino, a friend of Rodriguez, identified Solano as the shooter during the trial. Another witness, Israel Aquino, confirmed he saw Solano shooting at Rodriguez. After the shooting, police found many shell casings near where the victim fell.

Raymond Solano was arrested 16 days later, on June 19, 2001. Police in Hartford, Connecticut, received tips regarding his whereabouts. When officers approached the location where Solano and another man, Cantalino Morales, were staying, they attempted to arrest them. Morales shot at the police, and during the commotion, both men ran away. Solano was apprehended while trying to hide in a wooded area.

When taken into custody, weapons and other items were found in the possession of Morales and Solano. Ballistics evidence later matched the recovered weapons to the bullets and shell casings found at the crime scene.

At trial, witnesses testified against Solano, while he claimed to have been in Hartford at the time of the shooting and denied knowing either Rodriguez or Morales before that day. Despite his defense, Solano was found guilty and was sentenced to death on May 30, 2003.
