May 27, 2013Ravindra Kumar Verma was born in 1969 in India. He grew up in the Siwan district of Bihar. His early life details are not widely known, but he eventually moved to Ghaziabad about 20 years before his later crimes. In Ghaziabad, he took up work as a truck driver. He had to support his family, but he struggled to hold onto jobs.
Ravindra experienced challenges throughout his life. His financial situation worsened, and he became unemployed for several months before his arrest. This was a difficult time for him and his family, leading to stress and arguments at home. He was also known to have conflicts with his wife, Durgawati. Family members reported that the couple often had disputes, especially when she encouraged him to find work.
Ravindra had a total of five children with Durgawati. The family faced hardships, and there were claims from some relatives that he had mental health issues. These issues affected his relationship with his family, and it was noted that some earlier incidents had raised concerns about his behavior.
On June 8, 2009, in Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a tragic event unfolded in a home in Rosy Colony. Ravindra Kumar Verma, a 40-year-old truck driver, was involved in a serious argument with his wife. Following the quarrel, he committed a horrific act by killing his five children. The victims were Anjali, 13, Preeti, 11, Priyanka, 9, Devraj, 5, and Yuvraj, who was just 9 months old.
Reports indicate that Verma used a "silbatta," a stone traditionally used for grinding, to beat his children to death. The children were found in their home, badly battered, while his wife Durgawati was critically injured during the attack. After the incident, Ravindra attempted to take his own life by inflicting wounds on his wrists.
When the police arrived, they discovered the scene and arrested Verma on the same day of the murders. Durgawati survived the attack and later testified against him. However, she later changed her statement and claimed that her husband was innocent. Despite this, ten witnesses were presented in court, and the evidence pointed to Verma's guilt.
On May 27, 2013, Ravindra Kumar Verma was sentenced to death by the court for his actions. The judge described the case as one of the most severe and brutal, marking it as the "rarest of rare cases."
