In April 1981, Randall Lynn McKinney was involved in the killing of Robert Bishop Jr. in Bonneville County, Idaho. Evidence presented in court established that the incident occurred during a robbery. McKinney shot Bishop using a .22 caliber revolver, resulting in his death.
Following the killing, the victim’s body was transported and abandoned in a gravel pit located northeast of Arco, Idaho. The location was remote, and the body was later discovered by authorities, leading to a homicide investigation.
Law enforcement connected McKinney to the crime through investigative findings and evidence linking him to both the victim and the disposal site. The case proceeded through the Idaho court system, and in 1983, McKinney was convicted of murder. On March 27, 1983, he was sentenced to death.
