murder story
Ramon Torres Hernandez committed several murders between 1994 and 2001. The first known victims were 13-year-old Sarah Beth Gonzales and her 12-year-old cousin Priscilla Almares. They went missing on December 16, 1994, after leaving a friend's house. Their bodies were found the next day in Rodriguez Park. An autopsy showed that both girls had been sexually assaulted and killed. The police struggled to find a suspect during the investigation.
On March 31, 2001, Hernandez, along with his girlfriend Asel Abdygapparova and his friend Santos Minjares, targeted a victim in San Antonio, Texas. They saw 37-year-old Rosa Maria Rosado at a bus stop. They forced her into their car and covered her mouth with duct tape. Hernandez and Minjares raped and murdered Rosado before burying her in a shallow grave.
Following the murder of Rosado, Abdygapparova reached out to the police. She wanted to reveal where they had hidden Rosado's body. The investigation led the police to connect Hernandez to the crime through evidence found at the scene. Hernandez was arrested on April 4, 2001, and Minjares was arrested the next day. While in custody, Hernandez's DNA was collected and matched to the evidence found in the earlier case of Gonzales and Almares.
Although Hernandez was not initially charged for the murders of Gonzales and Almares, investigators announced that the case was solved. On October 21, 2002, Hernandez confessed to the murders and received a death sentence. In a separate trial, Minjares was also sentenced to death. Abdygapparova was sentenced to life in prison for her involvement in Rosado's murder.
Hernandez was executed on November 14, 2012, by lethal injection at the Huntsville Unit in Texas. He was the 14th inmate executed in Texas that year.
