1983Phillip McCollum was born on June 19, 1965, in the United States.
On November 28, 1983, Phillip McCollum and Johnny Townsend went to the home of Hal Fuller and Margaret Fuller in Lake County. They spent a short time there before the violence began.
When Hal Fuller tried to use the telephone, Townsend stabbed him. McCollum then attacked Margaret Fuller with a knife while she pleaded for her life. He continued stabbing her, and later helped attack Hal Fuller again. Both victims died from multiple stab wounds.
After the killings, the two men searched the house for money but found none. They stole a radio, took the victims’ car, and escaped. Police later found the bodies inside the home, recovered a bloody knife, and located the stolen car two days later. Bloody clothing was also found during the investigation.
McCollum and Townsend were arrested and charged with murder. On March 8, 1985, McCollum was sentenced to death. Years later, while appeals were still ongoing, both sides reached an agreement. On April 29, 1999, his death sentence was removed, and he was resentenced to 120 years in prison.
