January 15, 1988Peter Ventura was born on July 14, 1935. He grew up in the United States, although specific details about his early childhood and family life are not widely recorded. Little is known about his schooling or the kind of environment he lived in during his formative years.
As a young man, Peter became involved in various activities. There is not much public information about his career path before he took a significant turn in life. His later actions would overshadow his early years, marking him as a notable figure in criminal history.
As Ventura moved into adulthood, he started to associate with people involved in crime. These connections would play a crucial role in his later actions. On April 15, 1981, he committed a murder that would lead to his arrest and eventual conviction.
He was arrested on June 25, 1981, and faced serious charges that would follow him for the rest of his life. His actions and the circumstances surrounding them would reveal a darker side to his personality. Ventura was sentenced to death on January 21, 1988, marking a drastic end to his life as he knew it before his criminal activities took over.
On April 15, 1981, Peter Ventura committed the murder of Robert Clemente in Volusia County, Florida. Ventura was hired to kill Clemente in a scheme arranged by Jerry Wright, who wanted to collect on an insurance policy he had taken out on Clemente. Wright needed money to repay a debt to Jack McDonald. To carry out the murder, McDonald connected Ventura with Wright in Chicago. Ventura agreed to the plan.
Ventura pretended to be a potential customer and arranged to meet Clemente at the Barnett Bank in Deland. They drove to a location that Ventura had chosen for the murder, with McDonald following them. Once they arrived, Ventura shot Clemente. After the shooting, Ventura ran to where McDonald was waiting, and they drove to Daytona Beach. Ventura received part of the payment for the murder and then left for Atlanta. He later flew to California.
Authorities in Chicago learned of the murder plot involving McDonald, Wright, and Ventura. McDonald was arrested when he attempted to meet with Wright. He eventually testified against Ventura during the trial. Ventura was arrested in Chicago on June 25, 1981, and was indicted for First-Degree Murder and Using a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony on June 30, 1981. After being bonded out of jail, he failed to attend an extradition hearing in August. He was apprehended again in Austin, Texas, after a coworker reported that Ventura bragged about the murder.
Ventura was convicted of murdering Clemente and received a death sentence on January 21, 1988.
