Bio

Peter Mangs was born in 1972 in Sweden. He grew up in a middle-class family in the city of Malmö, located in southern Sweden.

As he grew older, Mangs became known for displaying odd and sometimes troubling behaviors. He was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a condition that impacts social interaction and communication. Although he learned to manage his condition over the years, he continued to attend support groups related to Asperger's.

Mangs had a troubled educational and work history. He had difficulty maintaining stable employment and struggled with social skills.

He lived a quiet life overall but had conversations with acquaintances that raised concerns about his views on crime and certain groups of people. Some of this included making statements that hinted at a dislike for immigrants.

In the early 2000s, he began to make headlines for darker reasons, as he was linked to a series of shootings in Malmö that caused significant fear in the community.

Murder Story

Peter Mangs began his series of murders in Malmö, Sweden, with two killings in 2003. On June 13, he shot 23-year-old Firas al-Sharia, and again on July 28, he killed 66-year-old Kooros Effatian.

After a long pause, Mangs returned to violence in 2009. On October 10, he shot and killed 20-year-old Trez West Persson while she was sitting in a car with an acquaintance. This marked the start of a string of shootings that targeted people of immigrant origin.

Between 2009 and 2010, Mangs committed several shootings. He used a Glock 19 handgun to attack various targets. One notable attack was on a mosque on December 31, 2009. Although no one was killed, the shooting caused panic among the local community.

In the following months, Mangs continued his attacks, firing at people in different locations, including outside stores, in front of homes, and even inside a gym. Many victims were seriously injured, and there were numerous attempted murders during this period. He shot several individuals, including a 17-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man in January 2010, as well as multiple other victims throughout the year.

The shootings created widespread fear among the immigrant population in Malmö. Many residents were afraid to go outside, especially at night. The police, unsure of the shooter's identity for a long time, finally arrested Mangs on November 6, 2010, after an extensive investigation.

Mangs was charged with multiple counts, including two murders and several attempted murders. His trial took place in 2012, and he was found guilty on several charges. He was sentenced to life in prison on November 22, 2012. An appeal to overturn his sentence was denied by the Malmö Appeals Court in 2013. Ultimately, Mangs’s actions were linked to feelings of anger towards people he perceived as criminals or immigrants.
