murder story

On 5 April 2008, 10-year-old Engla Juncosa Höglund went missing while riding her bicycle home from soccer practice in Stjärnsund, Sweden. Her mother, Carina, grew worried when Engla did not answer her calls. Carina searched for her daughter and found her abandoned bicycle in the woods. She suspected that something was wrong because Engla did not have the strength to hide the bike. A man taking pictures nearby captured an image of Engla on her bike and another image of a red Saab 900 following her. This driver turned out to be Per Anders Eklund.

After this evidence came to light, police arrested Eklund. On 13 April 2008, following extensive interrogations, Eklund confessed to killing Engla and led authorities to her body. He also admitted to the murder of a woman named Pernilla Hellgren.

Pernilla Hellgren was found dead on 4 June 2000 in Falun, Sweden. She was 31 years old and had been strangled and sexually assaulted. A young girl witnessed the attack and reported seeing a man following Pernilla. DNA evidence collected from the crime scene matched Eklund. He confessed to taking Pernilla's life when police confronted him with the DNA findings during the Engla investigation.

Eklund faced trial on 18 July 2008 for these murders, along with charges related to rape and child pornography. He was found guilty of all charges in August 2008 and sentenced to life imprisonment on 6 October 2008. After his sentencing, he was moved to Norrtälje Correctional Facility, which houses a special section for sex offenders.

In June 2014, Eklund was attacked by other inmates and had to go to the hospital but returned to prison the same day. He is also suspected in other murder cases, including the disappearance of six-year-old Jasmina Jasharaj in 1997 and the unsolved murder of Malin Olsson in 1994.
