Bio

Paul Stephen Osborne was born in 1968. He grew up in Queensland, Australia. As an adult, he worked as a factory hand. In 1985, when he was around 17 years old, Osborne was involved in a serious incident. He attacked a 19-year-old woman in Brisbane. He attempted to strangle her and sexually assaulted her. For this crime, he was sentenced to six years in prison. He ended up serving three years and ten months before being released.

After his release, Osborne continued to struggle. He often had problems with alcohol. His life took a turning point when he attended a barbecue in October 1995. On the same day, he saw two young girls, Leanne Marie Oliver and Patricia Sophia Leedie, who were 10 and 8 years old, respectively. They were last seen by their families when Leanne told her brother that she had their mother’s permission to look for odd jobs with Patricia.

On the day of the barbecue, Osborne drank heavily. Witnesses reported that he consumed about twelve stubbies of beer and smoked marijuana. After the barbecue, he left with his partner, but they became separated. This would lead to the tragic events of that evening at Warana Beach.

Murder Story

On October 29, 1995, Paul Stephen Osborne committed the murders of two young girls, Leanne Marie Oliver, aged 10, and Patricia Sophia Leedie, aged 8, at Warana Beach in Queensland, Australia. Earlier that day, Osborne had attended a barbecue where he consumed a large amount of alcohol. He left the barbecue and made his way to the beach, where he recognized the girls from the earlier event.

Osborne spent some time swimming with Leanne and Patricia before he attacked them. After the assault, he left the beach but forgot his wallet, which contained his identification. This mistake led police to identify him as the prime suspect in the murders. After realizing his wallet was found at the scene, Osborne initially denied his involvement but later confessed. He claimed he could not remember much about the attack and expressed confusion about his actions. He mentioned that he did not know why he hurt the girls, describing them as "pretty nice."

In February 1997, Osborne was sentenced to two life terms in prison for the murders, along with additional years for the rapes. At the time of sentencing, he was noted as a repeat offender with a prior conviction for a violent sexual assault in 1985. The court determined that Osborne would never be released from prison due to the severity of his crimes.
