Bio

Obie D. Weathers was born on August 11, 1981, in Bexar County, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio, where he lived in a neighborhood that had its share of challenges. Not much is known about his early family life or childhood experiences. However, it is clear that he faced difficulties that shaped his later life.

Obie attended school but did not complete his education. By the time he was in high school, he had only reached the 11th grade. After leaving school, he worked as a laborer to support himself.

In his young adult life, Obie began to get into trouble with the law. He had no prior prison record before his arrest in 2000. At the age of 18, on February 4, 2000, he became involved in a serious incident that would change his life forever.

Up until that point, he was living a life that many young men experience, facing the typical struggles that come with growing up. However, his choices and circumstances led him down a very different path.

Murder Story

On February 4, 2000, Obie D. Weathers entered a bar in San Antonio, Texas. He demanded money from the bartender, who was Ted Church. Church refused to give him any money. In response, Weathers shot him. This act led to significant consequences.

Weathers was arrested on February 15, 2000, just over a week after the shooting. The police took him into custody at his place of work. During his arrest, he resisted, which resulted in injuries to both him and the officers. Once at the police station, he confessed to his involvement in the robbery and the murder of Ted Church.

In May 2001, Weathers was convicted of capital murder. The jury's decision was based on special issues set forth by Texas law. On September 13, 2001, he was sentenced to death for his crimes.

Weathers did not have any prior prison record before this incident. After his sentencing, he was given the TDCJ number 999396, and he remains incarcerated in Texas. His case illustrates a tragic intersection of robbery, violence, and legal repercussions.
