Noel "Adrian" Doorbal worked part-time at Sun Gym in North Miami, Florida, where he met Daniel Lugo. A bodybuilder and fitness enthusiast, Doorbal was drawn into Lugo’s world of scams and get-rich-quick schemes. He had no prior murder convictions before joining what would become the Sun Gym Gang. As Lugo’s right-hand man, Doorbal played a key role in the gang's operations, helping carry out elaborate kidnappings, extortions, and eventually murder. He was known for his violent tendencies and willingness to carry out extreme acts of brutality to please Lugo and get ahead.

murder story

Doorbal was a central figure in the Sun Gym Gang’s plot to kidnap and extort Marc Schiller in 1994. Alongside Lugo and others, he attempted to abduct Schiller seven times before finally succeeding. Schiller was held for nearly a month, tortured, and forced to sign over millions in assets. When the gang tried to kill him in a staged car crash and arson attempt, Doorbal helped run Schiller over with a car twice. Schiller miraculously survived and fled to New York.

In 1995, Doorbal and Lugo targeted Frank Griga and his girlfriend Krisztina Furton. After a meeting meant to lure Griga into an investment scam, Doorbal killed him during a struggle at Doorbal’s apartment. Furton was then drugged with a horse tranquilizer by Lugo and injected multiple times during an interrogation. She later died from an overdose. The bodies were dismembered and hidden in barrels at a warehouse. Doorbal personally handled most of the dismemberment.

Police caught up with the gang after Schiller returned and cooperated with a private investigator. Doorbal was arrested and charged with multiple crimes including kidnapping, extortion, attempted murder, and two counts of first-degree murder.

In 1996, Doorbal was convicted on 18 counts and sentenced to death. However, in 2017, due to changes in Florida’s capital punishment laws, his death sentence was overturned. He remains in prison, serving life sentences for his role in the gruesome murders and kidnappings.
