— Moises Sandoval Mendoza
Moises Sandoval Mendoza was born on January 26, 1984, in Mexico. He later lived in Farmersville, Texas, in Collin County. Texas prison records listed him as a laborer with a high school education and no prior prison record before the capital murder case.
Mendoza graduated from Farmersville High School in 2001. Rachelle O’Neil Tolleson, the victim, also attended the same school. Reports say they were not close in high school, but they became acquainted again before the murder.
Before Tolleson’s death, Mendoza had pending legal problems in Dallas County. Reports said he had active warrants connected to aggravated robbery charges. He had also been accused in a misdemeanor assault case involving his sister, but that case was later dismissed.
On March 17, 2004, Rachelle O’Neil Tolleson returned to her home in Farmersville, Texas, with her infant daughter. The next morning, her mother went to the house and found the back door open. Inside, the bedroom was disturbed, and Tolleson’s baby was left alone. Tolleson was missing, so police were called.

Investigators later focused on Moises Sandoval Mendoza. He knew Tolleson from Farmersville High School and had recently seen her again before the murder. Court records said Mendoza had been at Tolleson’s home during a party less than a week before she disappeared.
According to court and prison records, Mendoza took Tolleson from her home, sexually assaulted her, and killed her on March 18, 2004. She was 20 years old. Records state that he strangled her and later hid her body in a field behind his house for several days.
After police questioned Mendoza about Tolleson’s disappearance, he moved her body to a remote area in rural Collin County. He burned the body and hid it under brush. A man later found the remains, and Tolleson was identified through dental records.
Mendoza was arrested on March 24, 2004. Authorities said he confessed to the killing but did not give a clear reason for what he had done. Prosecutors said he strangled, sexually assaulted, and stabbed Tolleson before trying to dispose of her body.
Mendoza was charged with capital murder. On June 23, 2005, a Collin County jury found him guilty. Prosecutors argued that the murder happened during kidnapping, attempted burglary, and aggravated sexual assault.
After the conviction, the jury considered whether Mendoza should receive life in prison or the death penalty. Prosecutors presented evidence of violent behavior, while the defense asked jurors to consider his family background, depression, and personal problems. The jury chose the death penalty.
Mendoza was sentenced to death in 2005. He appealed his conviction and sentence, but the Texas courts and later federal courts rejected his appeals. His final legal challenges were also denied.
On April 23, 2025, Moises Sandoval Mendoza was executed by lethal injection at the Texas state penitentiary in Huntsville. He was 41 years old. Before his execution, he apologized to Rachelle Tolleson’s family and to her daughter, Avery, for taking Rachelle’s life.
