— Michael Seibert
Michael Seibert was born on January 12, 1968. He grew up in Miami, Florida. Little is known about his early life, including his family and education. However, it is reported that he had a troubled past. By adolescence, he began to engage in criminal behavior.
Seibert faced legal issues in his youth. He was involved in serious crimes, including attempted kidnapping and robbery. In 1986, at the age of 18, he kidnapped a woman named Kathryn Jones. He severely injured her, leaving her for dead. He was caught and later served time in prison for this crime. He was sentenced to 30 years but was released early after only serving about ten years.
After his release, he struggled with substance abuse. Reports indicate that he became involved in drug use, including cocaine and heroin. These issues likely contributed to his instability.
In the years following his release, Seibert lived in Miami-Dade County. He had roommates and was known to party. His life was marked by frequent conflicts and run-ins with police. Although he faced significant consequences for his earlier crimes, he continued down a troubling path.
On March 17, 1998, police responded to a call about a possible suicide at Michael Seibert’s apartment in Miami-Dade County, Florida. When the officers knocked on the door, Seibert answered and claimed he was fine but asked them to leave. The officers insisted on entering due to concerns about someone being hurt. Once inside, they discovered a severed foot in the bathtub, which led them to conclude that a murder had taken place. Seibert attempted to flee but was soon caught by the police.
During booking, Seibert exhibited strange behavior, admitting he was under the influence of heroin and cocaine. The body parts found belonged to Karolay Adrianza, an 18-year-old woman who had been reported missing after a night out with friends.
Seibert's roommate, William Green, testified that he had seen Seibert with Adrianza and her boyfriend earlier that evening. After sending Green and Navarres to buy supplies, Seibert requested to be alone with Adrianza. When Green returned, he was unable to enter and became concerned for Adrianza's safety, leading him to call the police.
The authorities later discovered Adrianza’s dismembered body in the bathtub. Most of the soft tissue from her waist down had been removed. An autopsy determined that Adrianza had been strangled, and there was evidence of sexual assault.
Seibert was indicted for first-degree murder shortly after the incident. After a trial where he was found guilty, he was sentenced to death on March 24, 2003. Seibert’s conviction and sentence went through various appeals, but the Florida Supreme Court affirmed his death sentence on February 16, 2006. He later filed additional motions for post-conviction relief, which were still pending.
