— Michael Queripel
Michael Queripel was born in 1938 in England. He grew up in a typical environment for that time period. As a child, he lived in Potters Bar, a town located in Hertfordshire. In his teenage years, Michael worked as a clerk for the Potters Bar Urban District Council. His job was not unusual for a young man at that age.
On April 28, 1955, events unfolded that led to serious consequences. He became involved in a tragic incident that resulted in the murder of Elizabeth Currell, a 46-year-old woman. Michael was arrested on August 19, 1955.
On April 28, 1955, Elizabeth Currell went for a walk on a golf course in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. She took her dog with her but did not come home. The next morning, her body was discovered near the 17th tee. She had been killed with an iron tee-marker that was found next to her. A bloody palm print was also on the tee-marker.
The police began investigating the crime and took over 9,000 palm prints from people in the area. On August 19, they found a palm print that matched 17-year-old Michael Queripel, who worked as a clerk for the local council. At first, Queripel claimed he had only found the body. However, he later confessed to killing Mrs. Currell. He explained to police that he was out walking to relieve a migraine when he suddenly attacked her.
Michael Queripel was arrested and faced trial for murder at the Old Bailey on October 12, 1955. He pleaded guilty to the charges. As a minor, he was sentenced to be detained at Her Majesty's Pleasure, which is a term for life imprisonment for those under 18.
