1987Michael Miller was born in 1962 in the United States. Before Larry Judson Sneed’s murder, Miller was already involved in serious crimes. On October 27, 1987, two days before the murder, Miller and Darrell Cook were riding around Atlanta in a stolen van looking for money.
That night, they kidnapped Jimmy Evans from a bar parking lot. They tied him up, forced him to give them his address, went to his apartment, tied up his roommate, and stole items from the home. Evans was later taken to a deserted area and left by the roadside.
After that crime, Miller and Cook met Teresa Okoia. The group drove to Covington, Georgia, where they spent the day buying drugs. In the early morning of October 29, 1987, Miller, Cook, and Okoia were driving on Miller Bottom Road when they decided to stop and rob the first car they saw. That decision led to the murder of Larry Judson Sneed.
Miller later gave police detailed information about the killing while he was already in jail on another charge. At first, he claimed he only heard about the crime from others. Police became suspicious because he knew too many details. He later admitted he was present but claimed he only watched and did not take part in the shooting.
In the early morning of October 29, 1987, Michael Miller, Darrell Cook, and Teresa Okoia were driving on Miller Bottom Road in Walton County, Georgia. They had spent the previous day buying drugs in Covington. While driving back, they decided to stop and rob the first person they saw.
The victim was 35-year-old Larry Judson Sneed. Miller fired several shots at Sneed’s car with a .22 rifle. When Sneed hit the brakes, the van carrying Miller and the others struck the back of his car and forced it off the road.
Sneed got out and tried to run away. Miller shot him in the back. After the shooting, Miller searched Sneed’s pockets while Okoia searched the car. They took Sneed’s wallet, a cooler, a check, and several credit cards. Sneed died from blood loss.
On November 11, 1987, Miller was already in jail on another charge when he told police he had information about Sneed’s murder. At first, he claimed he only heard about the crime from others. Police became suspicious because he knew too many details. He later admitted he was present but claimed he only watched.
Miller was tried in Walton County, Georgia, in November 1988. The jury convicted him of murder and armed robbery. He was sentenced to death on November 23, 1988.
The Georgia Supreme Court upheld his conviction and death sentence in 1989. Later, his case was reviewed because of claims related to intellectual disability.
