May 7, 2003Michael Gordon Reynolds was born on July 27, 1955. He grew up in a challenging environment. His father was described as both mentally and physically abusive. Despite this, he had a loving relationship with his mother. Reynolds also had a sister who was wheelchair-bound, and he helped care for her during his childhood.
As a young man, Reynolds faced several difficulties. He got into trouble with the law and served time in prisons. He was imprisoned in Arizona for shooting two people. In Texas, he was sentenced for robbing a man at knifepoint. These incidents contributed to a pattern of violent behavior.
Reynolds lived in Florida, specifically in Seminole County, where he was part of a community that had some disputes. He had conflicts with neighbors in his trailer lot. One notable dispute was with a man named Danny Privett over a trailer frame that Reynolds wanted but was given to Privett instead. Though they initially had issues, the dispute was eventually settled, and they apparently got along afterward.
On July 21, 1998, three people were murdered in a trailer lot in Seminole County, Florida. The victims were Danny Privett, his girlfriend Robin Razor, and their 11-year-old daughter Christina. Danny was found outside the trailer, dead from blunt force trauma to the head caused by a broken concrete block. At first, his mother, Shirley Razor, thought he was just drunk on the ground. It was only after she investigated that she saw he had been killed.
Inside the trailer, Robin and Christina were also found dead. Robin had multiple stab wounds and bruises, indicating she had fought back against her attacker. Christina died from a stab wound to her chest and also had marks on her body. There was no evidence of sexual assault on her.
After the murders, investigators looked into possible suspects. One of them was Michael Gordon Reynolds, who lived nearby. He had a past dispute with Danny Privett over a trailer frame, but they had resolved their differences. The morning after the murders, Reynolds went to the hospital with injuries he claimed came from an unrelated accident.
During the investigation, some evidence was collected, but not all was tested for forensic analysis. Blood found on the victims matched Reynolds, but other DNA evidence was inconclusive. No direct evidence linked him to the crime scene, as footprints found did not match his.
Reynolds was charged with multiple counts of murder and armed burglary. A jury found him guilty, and he received a death sentence for the first-degree murders of Robin and Christina. He was also sentenced to life for the second-degree murder of Danny and life for the armed burglary.
Reynolds appealed his conviction and sentence, raising several arguments about the trial's procedures. On May 18, 2006, the Florida Supreme Court upheld the jury's decision, and in 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court denied his petition for further review.
