Mark Howard McClain was born on June 1, 1967, in the United States. Before the murder case, McClain had prior criminal convictions, including armed robbery. By the 1990s, he was living in Georgia and was involved with Tina Butler, his girlfriend at the time.

Murder Story

In the early morning of November 20, 1994, Mark Howard McClain went to a Domino’s Pizza store in Richmond County, Georgia. He waited for a delivery driver to return, then forced his way inside with a handgun.

The delivery driver ran away and saw McClain robbing store manager Kevin Brown. After McClain left, the employee returned and found Brown shot in the chest. Brown died at the scene. The witness gave police the license plate number of the getaway car. Investigators traced the vehicle and arrested McClain the next day.

After his arrest, McClain called his girlfriend, Tina Butler, from jail and told her to destroy evidence and give him an alibi. She later cooperated with police and gave them clothing linked to the crime. The gun was recovered later.

At trial, McClain admitted shooting Brown but said it was accidental. Prosecutors argued the shooting was intentional during the robbery. The jury found him guilty and sentenced him to death. After many appeals failed, McClain was executed by lethal injection on October 20, 2009, in Jackson. His final words were, “No, I’m fine.”
