Bio

Mark Anthony Stroman was born on October 13, 1969, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in a challenging environment that shaped his later life. His family struggled financially, and Stroman experienced many difficulties during his childhood. By the age of 12, he had already committed armed robbery, marking the beginning of his troubled youth.

Stroman's early life was characterized by frequent run-ins with the law. He was involved in various criminal activities, including theft and drug use. His behavior led to multiple arrests during his teenage years. As a young adult, he continued to commit crimes, resulting in imprisonment. He served time for burglary and theft, learning little from these experiences.

Before his criminal activities escalated, Stroman had worked in various jobs, including as a baker and laborer. His education level was limited to only eight years, which affected his opportunities as an adult. Despite these issues, he managed to find work but continued to find himself in trouble with the law.

Stroman's criminal record included significant offenses, such as robbery and burglary. He had been sentenced to prison multiple times, and each time he was released, he struggled to adapt to a law-abiding lifestyle. His actions and decisions were often driven by a sense of anger and frustration, factors that would play a major role later in his life.

As he entered adulthood, Stroman's criminal behavior worsened, leading to more serious legal issues. He had prior convictions for burglary, credit card abuse, and robbery before the events that defined his later life. His juvenile offenses and subsequent adult convictions illustrated a pattern of behavior that suggested deeper issues he never fully addressed.

Murder Story

On September 15, 2001, Mark Stroman shot and killed Waqar Hasan, a 46-year-old Pakistani man, while he was grilling hamburgers in his convenience store in Dallas. This crime happened just days after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Stroman later claimed that this murder was part of a series of attacks he carried out against people he believed to be of Middle Eastern descent.

After the murder of Hasan, Stroman shot Raisuddin Bhuiyan, a Bangladeshi man, on September 21, 2001, while Bhuiyan was working at a convenience store. Bhuiyan survived but was left blind in one eye due to his injuries. Stroman's actions were motivated by anger towards people he falsely perceived as connected to the attacks on the United States.

Finally, on October 4, 2001, Stroman entered a gas station operated by 49-year-old Vasudev Patel in Mesquite, Texas. He demanded money from Patel and, when the cashier reached for a weapon he had hidden, Stroman shot Patel in the chest. This murder was captured on the store's surveillance camera. Although he attempted to rob Patel, Stroman left without taking any cash.

Stroman was arrested soon after Patel's murder. When police apprehended him, they discovered the .44-caliber handgun he used in the shooting. In custody, he confessed to the murders and expressed a belief that his actions were a form of patriotic duty in response to the September 11 attacks. He lacked remorse for his actions and referred to his victims in racially charged terms.

Stroman was convicted of capital murder and was sentenced to death on April 4, 2002. He spent several years on death row before being executed by lethal injection on July 20, 2011.
