Mario Alberto Sulú Canché was born in 1979 in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, into a lower-middle-class, dysfunctional family. From a young age, he exhibited antisocial behavior and had numerous run-ins with the law, including charges of sexual harassment, armed robbery, and attempted rape. He struggled to maintain steady employment and often resorted to theft to sustain himself. Psychiatrists who later examined him suggested that he might have suffered from antisocial personality disorder.

murder story

Between 2007 and 2008, Sulú Canché committed a series of heinous crimes that shocked the rural communities of Mérida, Yucatán. His modus operandi involved approaching young women under the pretense of offering them employment. Once he gained their trust, he would lure them into his vehicle and drive them to secluded areas. There, he would make unsolicited advances; when rejected, he became violent, leading to sexual assault and ultimately murder. To conceal his crimes, he disposed of the bodies in various ways, including dumping them in the sea or burying them near highways.

Alma Lucely Canul Ciau: A 15-year-old high school student murdered in June 2007. Sulú Canché intercepted her after school, and upon her resistance to his advances, he bludgeoned her to death with a log. He then disposed of her body in the sea.

Leydi Marlene Pech Canul: Killed in January 2008. Sulú Canché assaulted her, and when she resisted, he strangled her and buried her body near a highway.

Guadalupe de los Ángeles Rodríguez Méndez: A 25-year-old woman murdered in July 2008. Sulú Canché bound, assaulted, and strangled her before burying her body alongside a road.

Sulú Canché's disorganized approach left numerous clues, including witnesses who saw his first victim entering his vehicle. He was arrested on August 4, 2008, and subsequently confessed to the three murders. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison. However, on August 29, 2008, he was found dead in his prison cell, having hanged himself with a pair of pants.
