murder story

Between 2008 and 2009, Mogale committed a series of brutal crimes, earning him the nickname "The West-End Serial Killer." Operating in Westonaria and Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, he specifically targeted women, using his charm and a religious disguise to gain their trust. He pretended to be a prophet associated with the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), convincing victims that he had spiritual guidance for them.

Once his victims were isolated, Mogale would assault, rape, and murder them, often using strangulation or blunt force trauma. His killing spree left at least 16 women dead, while 19 others were raped. Some victims were reported missing for weeks before their bodies were discovered. Survivors of his attacks later testified in court, stating that he would lure them with promises of divine intervention before turning violent.

His crimes led to an extensive police investigation. Mogale was arrested on March 27, 2009, and stood trial for 61 charges, including murder, rape, and kidnapping. On February 17, 2011, Mogale was found guilty on 52 of 61 charges, which included 16 counts of murder, 19 counts of rape, and 9 counts of kidnapping. In March of that year, Judge Kgomo meted out a harsh sentence: 16 life sentences for the murder counts; additional life terms and multi‑year sentences for rape, kidnapping, robbery, assault, theft, fraud, and escape from custody.
