2003Ma Yong was born in 1960 in China. He grew up in a country that was changing rapidly. During his early years, China underwent significant political and social transformations. There were times of hardship as well as economic growth. People were trying to make better lives for themselves.
As a young man, Ma Yong may have faced various struggles in his life, but specific details about his childhood are not widely known. Information about his family background and early education is scarce. There are no records that clearly outline his experiences growing up, his relationships with friends and family, or any challenges he may have faced.
As he grew older, Ma Yong eventually moved to Shenzhen, a city that was becoming known for its economic opportunities. Shenzhen transformed from a small fishing village into a major city in a short period. Many people, including Ma Yong, were drawn there by the promise of jobs and a better future. However, it is unclear what specific jobs or activities he engaged in during this time.
In the years leading up to his arrest, Ma developed a partnership that changed his life dramatically. He became involved with a younger woman named Duan Zhiqun. Together, they devised a plan that would have serious consequences.
Ultimately, Ma Yong's early life was marked by significant changes in China, but details about his personal experiences and the influences that shaped him remain largely unknown.
Ma Yong committed a series of robberies and murders in Shenzhen, China from May to October 2003. He and his partner, Duan Zhiqun, preyed on young women who were searching for jobs. Ma Yong and Duan posed as potential employers to attract these women to their home, which they called their "office."
Over five months, they lured a total of twelve women. The victims were robbed and killed. After the murders, Ma Yong and Duan disposed of the bodies throughout the Buji province.
On October 13, 2003, a young woman managed to escape from their home and reported her ordeal to the police. This led to Ma Yong’s arrest on October 12, 2003. Duan was arrested shortly after on October 23, 2003.
During their trial, both Ma Yong and Duan confessed to the killings. For their actions, Ma Yong was sentenced to death in November 2003.
