— Lionell Gonzales Rodriguez
Lionell Gonzales Rodriguez was born on February 1, 1971. He grew up in Fort Bend County, Texas. His early life was marked by challenges, particularly involving family issues. His father, Henry Rodriguez, had a history of alcohol abuse and was reported to be physically abusive towards Lionell's mother and their children. This environment contributed to a difficult childhood for Lionell.
At a young age, Lionell encountered a lot of violence at home. His father would take him to bars and expose him to alcohol when he was just a child. This early exposure may have influenced Lionell's later behavior. By his teenage years, he had begun using drugs, including crack cocaine.
In his youth, Lionell experienced legal troubles. He had a record of offending, including a burglary conviction for which he served a short term in prison. He was placed on probation after this conviction, but that probation was later revoked due to further offenses. Witnesses at his trials would later recount their observations of Lionell's aggressive behavior, describing him as someone with a bad reputation for not abiding by the law.
Despite the challenges in his upbringing, there were moments when people believed Lionell had the potential to change. Some relatives testified to positive changes they noticed in him during his time in prison. He reportedly engaged in religious activities and tried to help others avoid following a criminal path.
Lionell was just 19 years old when he was involved in a deadly incident in 1990. Although he had been paroled only a few weeks prior to this event, his life had already taken a sharp turn that would lead to significant consequences.
On September 5, 1990, Lionell Gonzales Rodriguez, then 19 years old, was involved in a violent crime in Harris County, Texas. That day, he drove around with his cousin, James Gonzales, carrying a stolen shotgun and automatic rifle. They were looking for a place to rob. At a stoplight, Rodriguez saw Tracy Gee, a 22-year-old woman, sitting alone in her car. He aimed the rifle at her and fired, hitting her in the head.

After the shot, Rodriguez jumped out of his car. He then pushed Tracy's body onto the street and drove away in her car, with his cousin following closely behind. A few hours later, law enforcement caught Rodriguez driving Tracy's car. Inside, they found evidence of the crime including blood and brain matter. His clothes were also stained with blood, and he confessed to killing Tracy.
Rodriguez was arrested shortly after the murder and was charged with capital murder involving robbery. At trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to death. His conviction was briefly overturned due to issues with jury selection, but he was retried and again sentenced to death. After numerous appeals, Rodriguez was executed by lethal injection on June 20, 2007.
