murder story

On April 17, 1991, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Leroy Hall Jr. confronted his ex-girlfriend, Traci Crozier, while she was sitting in her car. After failing to persuade her to reconcile, Hall threw gasoline at Crozier and set the car on fire. As a result, Crozier suffered severe burns, with more than 90% of her body burned. She was found outside her car shortly after the fire was set.

Traci was taken to Erlanger Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the next day, April 18, 1991. Medical professionals described her injuries as some of the worst cases of burns they had ever seen. Following the attack, Hall was arrested and initially denied any involvement in Crozier's death. However, he later confessed.

Hall was charged with premeditated first-degree murder and aggravated arson. His trial took place from March 3 to March 11, 1992. During the trial, evidence was presented about the severity of Crozier's injuries and the nature of the fire. Experts testified that gasoline had been poured directly onto the victim and that the fire started from the driver's seat. The jury found Hall guilty of both counts.

After the trial, the jury recommended the death penalty, citing the heinous nature of the crime. In addition to the death sentence, Hall received a 25-year jail term for aggravated arson. Despite multiple appeals, Hall's death sentence was upheld by the courts.

Hall's execution was scheduled several times and faced legal challenges. He ultimately chose to be executed by electric chair. On December 5, 2019, Hall was executed, becoming one of the few inmates in Tennessee to choose this method. His last words included an apology to Crozier's family and a statement about forgiveness and love.

Hall's execution came nearly 28 years after the murder of Traci Crozier, which had profoundly affected her family.
