— Leigh Robinson
Leigh Robinson was born in 1948 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He grew up in a troubled household. His parents, Gwendoline and William Robinson, divorced when Leigh was just four years old. After the divorce, Leigh lived with his grandmother and later with an aunt before returning to live with his mother. Gwendoline, who was often called "Robbie," struggled with alcohol issues, which impacted Leigh's childhood.
Leigh did not have an easy time in school. He left school at the age of 13, despite having a high IQ. His behavior led to issues, and he was eventually expelled from Oakleigh High School. Even as a young man, he often acted out and displayed anti-social behavior, which became apparent in various incidents throughout his teenage years.
As he grew older, Leigh began to form relationships, including one with Valerie Ethel Dunn. They dated for about a year. However, there were signs of trouble in their relationship. Leigh often showed jealousy and aggression. This created a tense atmosphere for Valerie and her family. During this period, Leigh was known for having violent outbursts, and there were warnings from friends and family about his behavior.
By the time he reached adulthood, Leigh had already encountered the law several times. He had a history of minor crimes, including theft. His relationships, particularly with women, often involved conflicts and strains that suggested deeper issues.
Leigh Robinson committed two murders over the span of 40 years. The first murder occurred on June 8, 1968, when Robinson killed his teenage girlfriend, 17-year-old Valerie Ethel Dunn. He stabbed her multiple times in her Chadstone home, severely injuring her boyfriend, Des Grewar, in the process. Robinson was arrested six hours later and initially sentenced to death. His sentence was later commuted to 30 years in prison, and he served only 15 years before being released on parole.
Robinson's second murder took place on April 28, 2008. After an argument with his girlfriend, 33-year-old Tracey Greenbury, he chased her into her neighbor's house. Once he caught up to her, he shot her in the back of the head with a 12-gauge shotgun at point-blank range. He was arrested that same day.
Justice Simon Whelan sentenced Robinson to life without the possibility of parole for killing Greenbury. The court emphasized the need to protect the community from him, noting the terror Greenbury experienced before her death.
