Larme Price was born on June 27, 1972, in Brooklyn, New York. He had a difficult early life. His mother described him as a mentally disturbed drug addict. Price struggled with his mental health from a young age. He tried to check himself into mental health facilities on two occasions but was turned away both times.
As he grew older, Price began to have legal troubles. His criminal record started in 1989, including arrests for robbery, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. These incidents marked the beginning of his issues with the law.
In 2001, a few weeks after the September 11 attacks, Price’s mental health problems got worse. His mother said he became paranoid and believed people were following him. He also thought that a tracking device had been placed in his hand. Price often expressed feelings of fear and mentioned a desire to join the war.
On October 6, 2001, he was treated at Kings County Hospital Center for his worsening mental state. Before the events that led to his arrest, Price was an unemployed father of two children and lived in Crown Heights. He was with his girlfriend, who was expecting their third child. To support his family, he made money by selling stolen college textbooks.
murder story
On February 8, 2003, Larme Price shot and killed John Freddy, a 42-year-old man, at a convenience store in Queens, New York. Freddy was drinking coffee at the Central Mini Market when he was shot from behind. Just two hours later, Price killed Sukhjit "Sammy" Khajala, a 50-year-old Indian immigrant, in a Brooklyn convenience store. Price shot Khajala in the face and then stole $169 from the cash register before walking out.
On March 10, 2003, Price shot and killed Albert Kotlyar, a 32-year-old Ukrainian laundry manager, while he was sleeping at his booth. Price woke him up and shot him in the head. Ten days later, on March 20, 2003, he shot Mohammed Ali Nassir, a 54-year-old Yemeni immigrant, at the Stop II Food Market. Nassir was sitting near the door when Price killed him. Price also shot Nassir's cousin, Yakoob Aldailam, who survived the attack.
Price was arrested on March 28, 2003. He initially walked into a police station and claimed he knew who was responsible for the murders but later confessed to the killings. He stated that he was motivated by a desire for revenge related to the September 11 attacks. After his confession, police found a gun that matched the one used in the murders, as well as clothing he was believed to have worn during the shootings.
Price faced multiple charges, including four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. To avoid the death penalty, he made a plea deal in which he agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence without parole. On February 11, 2004, he was found guilty and sentenced to one hundred and fifty years in prison. As of 2022, he remains in custody at the Sullivan Correctional Facility.
