Klaus Peter Sobig was born in 1957 in Germany. He grew up in the city of Bielefeld, located in North Rhine-Westphalia.

As a young man, Sobig became involved in criminal activities. He committed robberies, which were the beginning of his criminal path. His first known crime happened in 1976, when he stabbed a male victim during a robbery. This crime led to his arrest and sentencing. In 1977, he was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison. He served part of this sentence and was paroled in 1983.

After his release, Sobig's behavior did not improve. He committed further crimes, including another serious offense in 1984. This time, he targeted an elderly woman, resulting in a more severe outcome. Due to his actions, he was sentenced to life in prison in 1985.
