Bio

Kim Anthony McMichen was born on March 4, 1959, and later lived in Douglas County, Georgia. In 1983, he married Luan McMichen, and the couple had one daughter, Katie, born in 1985. Their marriage was marked by instability, with evidence later showing that McMichen struggled with alcohol abuse and depression while maintaining inconsistent employment.

In early 1990, Luan separated from McMichen and began living independently. Following the separation, McMichen engaged in ongoing harassment and repeatedly attempted to force reconciliation. Luan expressed fear for her safety and attempted to conceal her whereabouts.

During this period, Luan began a relationship with Jeff Robinson and moved in with him. McMichen continued to confront them and made threats in the months leading up to November 1990.

Murder Story

On November 16, 1990, in Douglas County, Georgia, Kim Anthony McMichen shot and killed his estranged wife, Luan McMichen, and her partner, Jeff Robinson.

McMichen went to their residence armed with a .38 caliber revolver. After a confrontation with Robinson, he shot him at close range, killing him instantly. He then shot Luan, who died shortly after from her injuries.

Following the shootings, McMichen remained at the scene, contacted his family, and waited for authorities. He was arrested the same day without resistance.

At trial, McMichen claimed self-defense, but the evidence did not support this account. On June 7, 1993, he was found guilty of two counts of murder. He was sentenced to death on July 1, 1993, and the conviction and sentence were upheld on appeal in 1995.
