Bio

Kevin Scott Varga was born on March 4, 1969, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He had a challenging upbringing that included time in juvenile detention. Varga's early life was marked by conflict and trouble with the law. In his teenage years, he was in and out of legal trouble, which would shape his future.

Varga spent 18 months in a Michigan county juvenile detention center. As he grew older, he continued to have issues with the law, leading to multiple arrests. These led to a three-year sentence for third-degree burglary and a ten-year sentence for grand theft in South Dakota.

In the late 1990s, Varga was living in South Dakota, where he eventually met Billy Galloway, Deannee Bayless, and Venus Joy Anderson. All four were on probation or parole. In September 1998, they decided to leave South Dakota together, intending to travel to Mexico.

On September 1, 1998, Varga and his friends gathered their belongings and drove south. During their journey, they engaged in plans that would lead to violent crimes. They briefly stopped in Wichita, Kansas, where their criminal activities escalated. Varga's background of criminal behavior was a precursor to the actions that would later lead to his arrest and conviction.

Ultimately, Varga's life was characterized by a pattern of crime, which began in his youth and continued into his adulthood. This pattern culminated in serious criminal acts that would bring him to the attention of law enforcement and the courts.

Murder Story

In September 1998, Kevin Scott Varga and his friends embarked on a road trip from South Dakota to Mexico. Varga was accompanied by his girlfriend, Venus Anderson, and his friend, Billy Galloway, along with Galloway’s girlfriend, Deannee Bayless. While traveling, they decided to commit robberies along the way.

On September 7, 1998, they stopped in Wichita, Kansas. There, Varga and his companions targeted an older man named David McCoy. After luring him back to their hotel, they physically attacked him. Varga brutally beat McCoy with a metal pole. The group then wrapped McCoy’s body in blankets and loaded it into their vehicle, eventually abandoning it when the car broke down.

Afterward, the group continued their journey into Texas. They arrived in Greenville, where they targeted another man, David Logie. Bayless and Anderson met Logie at a bar and convinced him to go out with them. They drove to a secluded area, where Bayless claimed they were going to have sex on the hood of Logie’s car.

Varga and Galloway ambushed Logie, attacking him viciously. Logie pleaded for his life, but the group persisted. Varga handed Galloway a heavy object to continue the assault. They ultimately killed Logie, took his belongings, and attempted to conceal the crime by dragging his body into the woods.

Authorities later discovered evidence linking the group to both murders. Varga and Galloway were tried for their roles in the capital murder of Logie. They received the death penalty for their involvement in these violent acts.

Varga was executed by lethal injection in Texas on May 12, 2010. His final words expressed regret and a plea for forgiveness for the pain he caused to the victims’ families.
